Keswick to Barrow Race

Trojan Squadron achieve outstanding success in the 40 mile race.

Before dawn on Saturday 8 May, after an arduous training programme and many early starts, the Trojan Squadron teams awoke to take on the Keswick to Barrow Challenge.

The event takes place annually in order to raise money for the Keswick Mountain Rescue and for other charities nominated by the participants, with half of all Trojan Squadron proceeds going to support Help for Heroes. The challenge is to complete the 40 mile journey from Keswick to Barrow-in-Furness as quickly as possible.

In total 22 Trojans took part, with 20 finishing including the fastest overall female competitor (Fg Off Fi Taylor: 5hrs 40mins) and an array of impressive times (OCdt Kris Axon: 5hrs 25, OCdt Ash Manning: 5hrs 40, OCdt Phil Roberts: 5hrs 50). The efforts of the team paid off, with Trojan squadron returning from the lakes with a plethora of silverware including the trophy for overall winners.

Speaking as a participant, no amount of thanks would be enough for the support crew, who worked hard to keep all the runners hydrated, full of sweets and smiling (most of the time).

So far the teams have raised £3000 (and counting) adding even more weight to an incredibly successful and worthwhile event, despite the raised eyebrows of those who can only see insanity.

Thanks to all the runners, the support crew, Capt Joiner and all those who sponsored us.
